The Packet Hotel stood at the northern end of Quay Street close to where the Pont y Ddraig is now. It was owned by Captain Edward Roberts who also lived there for a while. The hotel was so named because the steam packet - a paddle steam ship service between Rhyl and Liverpool - landed at a jetty close by. The jetty also served a ferry that crossed the Voryd as there was no bridge at Rhyl until 1861.
